Continuing Medical Education (CME) is recognized as the key to high quality health care delivery, since only by upgrading knowledge and maintaining competence will professional obsolescence be avoided. CME is becoming increasingly important as health ministries and local health authorities, institutions and other interested parties focus on the some of the fundamental issues such as standardizing accreditation, the minimum amount of CME credits a healthcare professional need to renew his/her licensed and the topics and appropriateness of the courses and conferences professionals attend.

Continuing Medical Education defines as education activities that serve to maintain develop or increases the knowledge, skills and professional’s performance and relationships that a physician and other allied health professionals use to provide services for patients, the public for the profession. The content of CME is that a body of knowledge and skills generally recognized and accepted by profession as within the basic medical sciences, the discipline of clinical medicine and the provision of health care to the public.

CME providers can develop activities on their own (directly sponsored) or in collaboration with non-accredited providers CME accreditation statement will indicate the relationship of the providers involved and which is accountable to the CME for the content, quality and scientific integrity of the activity.
